Kintsugi is a Japanese art in which broken or chipped vessels are beautifully reborn using natural lacquer(urushi) and gold, embracing the beauty of imperfection and transforming flaws into art.  How about experiencing Japan’s wabi-sabi culture as a memento of your journey?

1. Introduction to Kintsugi & Urushi

• Learn about the history and sustainability of Kintsugi, using Urushi, a natural tree sap.
• Discover various Kintsugi works.
  
    

  
  2. Kintsugi Demonstration

  • Watch a Kintsugi artist demonstrate the process and how our workshop follows traditional techniques.
    ✔️ Making traditional lacquer adhesive by mixing Urushi with flour
    ✔️ Coating the repaired area with lacquer and sprinkling gold (brass) powder

  
  3. Hands-on Kintsugi Experience

  ✔️ Choose a practice piece from the dishes provided at the venue.
  ✔️ Apply lacquer to a dish and experience the delicate technique.
  ✔️ Sprinkle brass/tin powder on the lacquer (upgrade to pure gold available for an extra fee).
  ✔️ Take your piece home in a box; it will be ready to use after one week.＊

Memories of pottery that you can't throw away even if it is not expensive. I started the `Kintsugi workshop' in 2018, because I thought that everyone has this kind of it.
Kintsugi, which uses lacquer, increases the attachment to the vessel as it takes time and effort. The ``Urushi Time'' where you can focus on your work with an open heart is a time to step away from your daily routine and refresh yourself.

Important Notes About Using Natural Urushi Lacquer

✔️ 1. Skin Sensitivity

• Undried Urushi lacquer may cause a rash if it touches your skin. Dried lacquer is safe to touch.
• In our Kintsugi classes, no rash cases have been reported as only a small amount of lacquer is used.
• We take precautions by providing instructions, gloves, and arm covers, but please handle it with care.
• We cannot be held responsible for any allergic reactions. If a rash occurs, see a dermatologist immediately.
   

✔️ 2. If Urushi Gets on Your Skin

• Do not wash it with water. Use oil to remove it.
• Inform us immediately, and we will assist you. It is safe if removed quickly.
   

✔️ 3. Drying Time

• Do not touch the Kintsugi piece for about a week until it fully hardens.
• Urushi lacquer dries by reacting with oxygen and moisture in the air. Drying time varies from 1 day to 1 week, depending on the climate.
• Before using, press the repaired area with a tissue to ensure it is completely dry.
• If you are concerned about the drying process, please consider using our optional delivery service.
   

✔️ 4. Handling & Care

• Do not use in microwaves or dishwashers.
• Do not soak in water for a long time, as it may weaken the adhesive.

We will support you learning Kintsugi after you go back to your country!!
